Don’t waste your time for the man that is not willing to spend it with you by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Beating heart of Colombia
Colombia is the country of mountains, coffee and Latin antiquities, with Bogota being its beating heart. Despite its bad reputation, inbound tourism is increasing every year, drawing more and more international tourists to Bogota. Colombia’s capital has indeed a multitude of attractions to offer to an experienced traveler - a beautiful botanical garden José Celestino Mutis, the historical area of the city La Candelaria, a colonial landmark Usaquen, museums and numerous green and spacious parks.
“Bogota’s savanna surrounded by its mountains is a magical place where an eclectic society has a multicultural offer!” says Ricardo.
The Gold Museum
Bogota is home to dozens of museums. The most famous and fascinating one is the Gold Museum. Its collection contains over 36.000 exhibits. The natives considered gold a sacred material. In fact, the origin of the legend of El Dorado may be traced back to the indigenous peoples of Colombia, Muisca. They used to offer gold to the Guatavita goddess, when the chief covered himself in gold and went to the center of the sacred lake.
Authentic experience
After you have been to the main tourist attractions of Bogota, you might want to escape to a place only locals know. Ricardo suggested his favorite spots in Bogota:
“Bogota has a couple of cozy small towns among its busy streets called Candelaria and Usaquen where you can taste the flavor of the local cuisine; Monserrate is a sanctuary located at the top of a mountain with a beautiful view. Up in the mountains you can spot several romantic places where the city lights blend with the night.
Also the colonial Colon Theater is a good reference. Various parks and gastronomical zones are mandatory places to visit by locals and visitors!”
Local wisdom
Whether you came here to see El Dorado with your own eyes, try a steak in the legendary Andres Carne de Res, embark on a Colombia coffee tour or visit the salt mines of Zipaquira, there is one local wisdom you need to stick to:
“Just come and have fun. Taste the local flavors and prepare to experience the Latin American music. You’ll find these and so much more in Bogotá!”
