Rome Ciampino Airport

It is one of the oldest operating airports in Italy opened in 1916. Now Ciampino Airport is one of the busiest airports specialising in handling most low cost flights with around six million passengers coming through it every year.

You are super lucky if you are flying to Rome from northern Europe and sitting in the right side of your plane. Then you will be able to get a spectacular view of the main attractions in Rome just from your seat!

Where it is located: Ciampino Airport is located 120 km south-southeast of central Rome, just outside the Greater Ring Road.

There are different ways of getting from Ciampino Airport to Rome city centre:

The cheapest but most complicated way of getting to Rome city centre is by train. You will need to that in two steps. First of all, you will need to catch a bus from Ciampino airport to Ciampino railway station, and then take the train to Rome Termini station. One-way train tickets cost only 1.50€, and the whole journey takes approximately 60 minutes.

The train is one of the most convenient and relatively cheap ways of getting to Rome since there are more than three bus companies available with shuttle coaches leaving every 15 to 30 minutes. The ride takes around 45-55 minutes depending on the traffic in the city.

A taxi of a transfer service is quite expensive but convenient when you are travelling to some exact destination or accommodation with your family or business partners. It’s more personalised and flexible.

International Fiumicino Airport

Fiumicino airport is the largest, busiest and most ‘international’ airport in Rome. Being a very large airport, Fiumicino houses many shops, banks, restaurants, currency exchange offices, numerous bars and restaurants specialising in different kinds of cuisine.

Where it is located: Fiumicino Leonardo da Vinci International Airport is 32 km from Rome.

There are different ways of getting from Ciampino Airport to Rome city centre:

The cheapest way to get to Rome city centre is by shuttle bus. Tickets cost up to 6 euro per person (for example, Terravision charges 4€, while Sit Bus Shuttle charges 6€) with trains departing the Arrivals terminal every 15 minutes during day time and 30 minutes in the early morning and late evening. The average time for a ride from Fiumicino airport to Rome is around 50 minutes depending on the number of bus stops and the traffic in the city.

The train is also quite a convenient and quick way of getting to Rome Termini train station.
