Citizens of up to 80 countries, including 39 European countries, can enter Belarus visa-free through Minsk National Airport. Travelers can stay in Belarus for up to 5 days. If you want to stay longer you will need to follow the registration procedure.

You can buy a local SIM card at Life:), MTS or Velcom offices which are located at the airport and around the city. Plans:

  • MTS SMART Guest with a monthly fee of 13.08 Belarusian rubles (about $7). The plan includes 1000 minutes of calls within the network and 2GB of internet traffic.
  • Velcom TOURIST plan gives you 2GB of internet traffic and 100 minutes to all networks in Belarus. It will cost 9.90 BYN for 10 days (around $5).
  • At Life:) you can choose Start yo life:) plan which does not require any subscription fee.
Belarus uses the New Belarusian ruble, code BYN. Banknotes come in denominations of 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5 rubles. A ruble is subdivided into 100 copecks. To make your calculations easier apply 1 USD = 2 BYN which is an approximate exchange rate. ATMs can be easily found on the streets and in shopping malls. Please mind that when you withdraw money the ATM will charge you a commission.
There are different means of public transport in Minsk, such as metro, buses, trams, and trolleybuses. You can also call a taxi, UBER or rent a car. Minsk metro has two lines and 29 stations. A token for one trip costs 0.60 BYN (about $0.30). It is the most convenient and fastest way of travel in the Belarusian capital. In the metro, the stops are announced in English as well.
WiFi coverage in Belarus is moderate, it’s relatively easy to find one when needed in cafes. You can always ask a waiter for a WiFi password. There is also free WiFi in public places (name: BELTELECOM), however, to register there you’ll be asked to insert your mobile phone number. After you do it, you’ll receive an sms with a code to connect, so make sure roaming is on.
